Steps for Bookmark Cricut Design
Alright, let’s get down to bookish business. Once you’ve got your book lover quote in mind, you can fire up your Cricut machine and connect to your Cricut Design app.
Step 1: Open Cricut Design Space
The first step is the easiest! After opening your Cricut design space, feel free to take a moment and save the project so you can continue to save it along the way if you wish. Who knows, you may have a handful of new bookmark Cricut ideas by the time this DIY is done!
Step 2: Create a Rectangle
This step sounds a little silly, but it makes the project run smoothly!
Follow these 5 quick steps to get your rectangle perfect so you can start designing your cute and bookish Bookmark Cricut style.
1. Open the shapes tab located on the toolbar at the bottom of the Cricut design space.
2. Choose the rounded edges rectangle and place it in your design space.
3. Click on the rectangle, turn it vertically, and choose the edit option.
4. Unlock the measurements, if they are locked, and set the rectangle to 2 x 6.
5. Click on the operation button next to the measurements; change the shape to a lighter color so you can easily see your design as you go along.
Step 3: Insert Drawing Elements & 1 Cut Element
Now we’re getting into the fun parts: adding unique and creative elements! In these steps, it’s very important to follow the directions, so your bookmark Cricut project goes smooth sailing.
Absolutely feel free to switch out and put your own spin on your bookmark Cricut DIY!
1.Open the Images tab & Set Your Filters
Before you go off on the big search for cute images to go along with your quote, take a moment to make sure that you’ve clicked the Free option if you aren’t using Cricut Access.
2. Search and choose the image(s) you want to use, and add them to your design space
Take a scroll through the options your search brings up and let the giddiness set in because we’re a few steps closer to seeing what the final bookmark Cricut product will look like!
3. Resize & Set Drawing Operation
At first, when images are dropped into the design space, they’re fairly large. We want to scale the image(s) down to a size that will fit within our bookmark guideline (The rectangle!).
After you’ve resized your image(s), make sure that they’re set to the Drawing operation, which can be checked through the Edit tab in the toolbar.
4. Open shapes and insert a circle
Look at that adorable image, all ready to be drawn!
Now, we’ll open the shapes tab back open and select a circle. This circle is going to be the hole we’ll use to create an adorable tassel!
5. Place the circle correctly & set the operation to cut
Once you size down your circle, place it near the top of your rectangle but leave some room at the top. Next, click on your circle and make sure that its operation is set to Cut.
Step 4: Place Your Bookmark Cricut Quote
Did you check out some bookish quotes? Pick out your favorite, and let’s plaster it on this bad boy!
1.Click on the text button in the toolbar & type out the selected quote
2. Choose a writing style font
This is an important distinction when choosing a font for your quote. You’ll want to pick one out that looks good in a writing style, so setting that Writing filter will come in handy.
And if you’d like to ensure you use a free font, also click on the Free filter!
3. Confirm your text is in writing style
No one likes a broken record, but it’s good to double-check that your text is set in a writing style. We want your project to turn out beautiful!
4. Place your quote on your Bookmark Cricut project & confirm your text is in the writing operation
Here’s the big step, placing your quote in the space that fits best on your bookmark. For this project, I’ve spaced out the lines and words, so the quote takes up the majority of the bookmark. Feel free to play around and see what works best for you!
Step 5: Create Bookmark Cricut Design
Let’s get this creative show on the road, it’s time to Make It!
Follow these 8 simple steps, and next up on the bookmark DIY express is creating your tassel. Whoop whoop!
1.Drag and select all the elements in your design space so that they are all highlighted
2. Attach the elements together
Once all the elements are highlighted, you’ll see an icon below that looks like a paperclip. Click on that, and it will attach all the elements together like one big happy family.
Attaching the elements together ensures that the Cricut machine understands the operations and makes it ready to go!
3. Click on the layers tab in the toolbar and hide the rectangle
We loved that little rectangle, it was such a helpful bookmark guide. But now it’s time to say Bye-Bye; no need for tears, though!
Click on the open eye next to the rectangle to hide it from the bookmark Cricut project.
4. Click the Make It button, choose your appropriate Cricut mat, and adjust your design if need be before continuing
5. Securely place your chosen paper on the mat, load the Cricut pen, choose your material, and start creating!
In the picture below, we have a pre-cut piece of light cardstock paper (2×6). But, if you’d like to place a larger piece of paper that fits on your mat, you can keep the rectangle visible in your Cricut design project.
6. After loading your mat, switch to the blade when prompted to
7. Unload your project after completion
Huzzah! The bookmark is alive!
And, goodness, I should really clean my Cricut mat.
8. Pop the circle out of your Bookmark Cricut project
After taking your cutesy bookmark off the mat, go ahead and pop out the little circle. It’s so satisfying, you’re gonna love it.
Steps for Tassel
Let’s give this bookmark some hair. Once you see the tassel as bookmark hair, it’s kind of hard to turn back.
And with that, let’s pick out our colors and go!
Step 1: Measure & Cut String
These pieces of string are cut at around 11 in, but your string doesn’t have to be precise. To have a nice size tassel, it’s recommended to cut at least 2 strings per color.
If you’re planning on doing a braid or knots for your tassel, make your strings a little longer!
Step 2: Gather String by the Ends & Fold it in Half
After you’ve got your strings all cut out, gather them up and take one end and fold it in half like in the pictures below.
Step 3: Feed String Through Bookmark Hole
Pinch the looped end of the tassel string and feed it through the hole in your bookmark. But don’t pull your string all the way through, not just yet!
Step 4: Pull String Through Loop
Nooooow it’s time to pull the string through! It’s tassel time!
Step 5: Cut Off the Extra String on the Ends
Break out those scissors again and cut off any extra string that’s not cool enough to hang with the bookworms.
Below you can see an example of the tassel left as it is and braided; you can really get creative with braids, knots, or even beads!
Leave your tassel wild & free,
or braid it up nice & cutesy!
By George, you’ve done it, you’re now an expert on creating a bookmark Cricut project all on your own. *Sniffle* You little crafters grow up so fast!
