We don’t have an entryway closet or hall tree for the entryway, so we would need a coat rack for all those coats and hats during the winter season, so we decided to make our own.  This post shows How to Make a Coat Rack using Garage Door Rollers.

We had some leftover lumber from a previous project.

The particular piece is a 2″x6″ and measures approximately 28″, which was just the right size for our new coat rack.

The 2″x6″ was sanded smooth and then I stenciled this lovely flower and vine on it, using this stencil.

Then I applied a dark walnut stain and a few coats of polyurethane to seal it.

I decided to look through my stash to see what would work to make hooks for the coat rack.

I found these garage door rollers that I had planned on using for the Angels from Repurposed Materials project, but had decided on something else.

There were 6 in my stash, and so I figured that would be enough to make a sizeable coat rack for our growing family.

I spray painted the metal parts black and brush painted the rollers on the end with an off white latex paint.

Six holes were drilled into the prepped board using a 3/8″ Forstner bit, just the perfect size for the garage door rollers to fit.

Then 2 D-hangers were fastened to the back to mount the coat rack to the wall.

The garage door rollers were put into the holes and I put tooth lock washers on the ends of the rollers to hold them in place.

After that, we used drywall screws to mount the coat rack onto the wall.  Now it’s time to pile on all the coats and hats.
