The main focus of this DIY is reusing fabric scraps that you don’t know what to do with but you’d feel guilty tossing them out. Ta-da! We can repurpose them!

In my case, I had made a few fleece tie blankets, and I had a lot of leftover scraps. But I loved the fabric so much I didn’t want to throw them out. So, I hung onto them, and now we have the perfect DIY for them.

    Homemade Cat Toy Steps

This fabulous DIY is brought to us by Craft Factory on YouTube! They have several fun cat toy ideas, but we loved this one below the best because you can repurpose old fabric scraps and give them a fun new life. Be sure to check out their video and see the other three awesome cat toy ideas!

Step One: Cut Fabric Into Strips

The first step is to cut your fabric into strips using your fabric scissors.

The length of your strips depends on how long you’d like the fabric to be on your cat’s toy. Cat’s do long a dangly frisky toy!

Just remember when you’re cutting the strips to keep in mind that you’ll need room to knot onto the hoop/ring.

The beauty of this DIY is that the lengths don’t have to be perfect, which is fantastic when you’re using fabric scraps!

You can also trim your fabric strips once they’re on your hoop/ring if the fabric seems too long.

You can even use the annoying advertisement fabric strips that are sometimes at the bottom of your fabric yard. Who would have thought you could repurpose that?!

Pro Tip: Any fabric you don’t use can be collected in a bag/jar/container and used later on for a sewing/knitting/crochet project that requires stuffing. Or, you can give it to a crafting buddy who does those sorts of projects (That’s what I do!).

Step Two: Tie Fabric Strips Onto the Ring/Hoop

After cutting your fabric strips, it’s time to tie the knot!

Get your fabric strips in order, switch off from one design to the next, and tie the strips around the embroidery hoop/ring.

A very simple knot will do just fine! You could double knot the fabric if you want to be extra safe or if your kitty really likes to whip their toy around.

Please be careful when you’re securing your knot so that you don’t tear your fabric.

Pop on a playlist or put Netflix on in the background while you tie the fabric strips around your ring; it’s actually pretty fun and relaxing!

After a couple of alternating turns of fabric strips, you’ll be finished with your adorable homemade cat toy!

Step Three: Give DIY Cat Toy to Your Kitty!

And now, the most enjoyable part of this DIY Cat Toy project is, of course, delivering the toy to your kitty.

They may be a little apprehensive at first and need to investigate, but watch them later on as they bat it around and fall in love with their new homemade cat toy.
