Repurposed Drawers into Shelves
Here’s some trivia about me, I like changing home décor quite often. For the past few weeks I’ve been rearranging my daughters’ room again, which was ready for another room refresh according to me, lol. You can see the first makeover of my daughters’ room here.
With the makeover I wanted to go with a more vintage, cozy feel and make their room a place where they really want to play, read and relax. Anyway I have some wall space that I’m wanting to fill, and these curbside drawers fit the bill for some nice shelving for the old, vintage books that they love having read to them before bedtime. I know using drawers as shelves isn’t a new concept, but still I wanted to show you how I made over this set of vintage drawers for my kids’ room.
The first thing I did was clean both drawers. Then I put 2 coats of a green satin latex paint just on the bottom of the drawers. I applied a coat of dark wax to the entire drawers, except the green painted part because I didn’t want the color of that to be altered because I wanted to make sure it matched all the other pieces I’ve painted green in their room.
My husband put 4 drywall screws in the wall, 2 per shelf, so I could hang the drawers on the wall. As you can see I left the drawer pulls in there. Even though the pulls can’t be seen I like to think they lend to the vintage air I’m trying to give the space.
I really wish I would have gotten a better before picture, but believe me when I say these drawers had scratches and wear to it that simply disappeared when the wax was applied, amazing right?! Everyone is always saying “that’s the power of paint”, including me, but there’s some power in that wax too. 😉
I hope you have enjoyed this repurposing project! Thanks for sharing!!
