Repurposed Puppet Stand into Butterfly Desk

I have another redo project today to show you. A while back my oldest daughter and I were talking about getting rid of things we don’t use anymore, and she suggested that we get rid of the puppet stand her dad and I refinished for them last year. I told her how about instead of getting rid of it we repurpose it. 😉 I think it was originally a desk, and since I’ve started to homeschool it made sense just to let my kiddos use it as a desk too.
Here’s how I repurposed this piece, Aaagain. I sanded the top down, free of all paint. I also sanded the bottom portion just a bit so I could repaint it with the natural tan color I’ve been using on the furniture. I stained the top of the desk with Dark Walnut stain. My daughter is learning her alphabet, so when she picked out my butterfly design to be stenciled on top, I thought it would be cute to also stencil “B is for Butterfly.” Both stencils were made using the Cricut Explore. I then sealed it with several coats of polyurethane.
My girls played with the puppet stand occasionally, but not enough to warrant taking up a corner needlessly. It’s a little sad changing things, especially when you remember the sweet times when they would play with their “Elsa” and “Tinkerbell” puppets, but I know they’ll get more use out of the desk. Has this ever happened to you? When you thought a project was a good idea, but it just wasn’t being used, so you either repurposed it or gave it away? I hope you’ve enjoyed seeing this revamp and that it inspires you in your project endeavors.
Thanks so much for sharing!!
