Several years ago our neighbors were throwing away their calendar holder, and my husband picked it out of the garbage for me, wasn’t that sweet?! He knew I would love it and I did. I held onto it for a while trying to figure out what to do with it. I finally made it into a chalkboard. Chalkboards are so cool, but I found out that I didn’t use it very often, like maybe 2 or 3 times in a couple years, so it was time to re-think my chalkboard. In this post I’ll be sharing How to Repurpose a Calendar Holder into Wall Art.
I decided to simply make it into wall art to hang near my in-progress coffee station. I detached the frame from the chalkboard, sanded down the chalkboard, and simply painted one coat of black acrylic paint over the board. I love how there’s still some chalk showing through in bits. It was then stapled back into the frame.
I designed a coffee stencil using different words associated with coffee to form a coffee cup shape. I cut the stencil on my Cricut using Show-OFFS Stencil Blanks that can be found at Hobby Lobby. I have the SVG and JPEG Cut Files of this design in my Resource Library, which is a bonus to email subscribers.
I stenciled my coffee design onto the freshly painted, but dry board. I also painted the frame with “Natural Tan” latex paint and when it was dry sanded quite a bit of it off to give it a rustic feel.
What do you think? Do you like the new piece of wall art? How about the coffee cup stencil? Do you have a chalkboard? Do you use it a lot or not so much?
I have this hanging above our coffee station; it’s such a fun wall decoration for this area of our house. I’ve designed some more coffee stencils that are stored in my Resource Library.
