Months ago I had painted this horse with chalkboard paint so that my girls could write on him. You can read all about the Chalkboard Rocking Horse. Well months past and he was well used, a little as a chalkboard but more just as rocking horse. He also floated from room to room because, well, there just wasn’t anywhere to put him. With the living room being remodeled, I have moved the bench that used to sit in my girls’ room into the living room, leaving a big space in the girls’ room. Guess who moved himself right in that space?
My girls love this toy and it has been in their room for a few weeks now, but it needed a makeover, so I decided I would paint it using the colors I used on their furniture. I was inspired by this beautiful rocking horse that Handan at The Navage Patch redid, and I wanted this horse to be given beautiful details too.
To start my girls helped me by taking off all his old hair and I took the seat and eyes off. I sanded him a bit then I painted him a few times. After he was painted and dry, I put all the accessories back on, save one thing. Do you see anything missing? I chose not to put the ears on because, well, what’s the point of putting them on when they will just be taken off? I’m not kidding my girls take the ears off every time, and I don’t know why. Good thing he can pull off the no ears look. whew! My eldest daughter calls him, “Majesty” from one of the Barbie movies, what a beautiful name for a horse.
I chose to give the horse some beautiful detail via this stencil. What do you all think?
While I’m showing off the new addition to the girls’ room, I also wanted to show you all a few more things I’ve done in here. When I made the framed butterfly wall art from cereal boxes, I cut extra butterflies to paint and put on this corner wall. I attached the butterflies to the wall using tape. I also added some flowers to each shelf. This corner really needed some texture and I think the butterflies and flowers did the job.
The top of the dresser got a refresh too. I added the lamp I got at a garage sale for $5 and the little genie music box that I’ve had since I was a kid, a gift from my grandma.
I hope you enjoyed seeing the new additions to my girls’ room. If you want to see the original room reveal you can check it out here.
Thanks for stopping by and have a great day!!
