It’s time for another installation of Int’l Bloggers Club!! If you’re new and haven’t seen some of our older posts, we’re a group of 4 blogger friends from around the world coming together to share our ideas, traditions and projects each month. In March we showcased Spring, and in April it was Shopping. This month we decided to fashion our posts around a furniture project.
If you’ve been checking in on my blog on Fridays, you know that we’ve been furiously working to get our living room and hallway remodeled. The last I wrote about it, we had our floors all finished and they are BEAUTIFUL!!
However, while we were in the process of refinishing the floors I kept arranging all the furniture we had, in my mind, as to where it would go. I think I fell asleep several nights rearranging furniture until I had it just so. In my mindful plans, I envisioned a somewhat tallish dresser to hold a smallish TV, as well as all of our DVDs and the Wii console and games, but that was one piece of furniture we didn’t have. I was so happy when I came across the perfect dresser a few weeks ago at a garage sale. It was only $10, made of real wood, sturdy, clean and just what I had in my mind.
I took all the drawers out and unfastened all the handles. Then I took our orbital sander and sanded the drawer fronts and the dresser casing. Anywhere the orbital wouldn’t reach I took a piece of 80 grit and sanded it a bit to ensure the paint would adhere. I painted the dresser in a satin Valspar latex tinted to “Natural Tan”. When everything was good and dry I stenciled designs on 2 of the drawer fronts with a dark brown color. I also cleaned the hardware with soap and water, and when they were dry I fastened them back onto the dresser. This is what the dresser turned entertainment center looks like now. What do you think?
I’ve already stuffed the top 2 drawers with DVDs. The middle drawer has all the Wii stuff and the bottom 2 drawers hold our photo albums.
Come back on Wednesday and I’ll reveal another furniture makeover I refinished for the living room. Don’t forget to check out what Katrin’s, Mary’s and Pili’s furniture projects turned out like.
I hope you have a wonderful day!!
