My husband recently took the light fixture down in our hallway, so that he could replace it with a new one. Here’s what our hallway looked like when we first moved in, and the light fixture that is being replaced. In this post I’ll be sharing How to Repurpose a Light Fixture into a Bird Feeder.
My husband set the light fixture aside for me until I found some other use for it. All the glass pieces were taken out and the actual lighting mechanism was disjoined from the fixture. Never mind the primer on the fixture. I wasn’t careful when painting the ceiling because I knew this would come down.
I decided that I would turn this part of the light fixture into a bird feeder. I spray painted it an off white color, along with an old chain we had lying around.
We had some mini clamps, so I used those to attach the chain to the light fixture. I had another short chain that I clamped together to the chain on the feeder. Then the shorter chain was wrapped around a tree branch and clamped together.
There are 2 or 3 little holes in the light fixture where the wiring was threaded through, but it’s actually perfect because it allows for some ventilation, and if any bird seed falls through the holes, the birds simply eat it off the ground.
This was a quick and easy project!! The birds LOVE their new bird feeder! I can hardly keep it filled.
