Repurposed Table into Puppet Stand
Remember the post about the cubby makeover, and how I told you all I bought some things from my friend, well this table was in the bundle.
It’s a cool looking table!! The perfect look for a teenager’s room, but I wanted to give it a makeover to match my daughters’ furniture in their room, so I sanded and painted it.
I switched out the drawer pull for a pull I bought at Hobby Lobby. I ended up painting the new pull the same color as the knobs on the little butterfly dresser.
I stenciled the front and top of the table, using the same butterfly and cherry blossom stencils as the dresser.
Before I started working on this little beauty, I had an idea to turn the table into a puppet stand. My daughters love going to the library and usually when we go they play with the puppets there, so I decided it would be nice if they could have a puppet stand of their very own. This was a project that my husband and I worked on as a Christmas gift to our girls. My husband cut a 1x piece of pine board to fit perfectly between the two back legs of the table. The board is kept in place by 3 screws drilled through the top of the back crossbeam, and down into the board, and 2 more screws into the side of each back leg and into the board. My husband applied wood filler, and when it was dry I sanded the wood filler and painted the board to match the table.
Then I took some curtains that no longer fit the windows in our new home, folded them in half and sewed them to make curtains for the puppet stand.
The curtains are held in place by a spring rod, and can be removed at any time.
This little puppet stand even has a place to store their puppets. I put one coat of paint on the inside of the drawer for a white washed look. The puppets were part of the Christmas present that we bought at Toys R Us. I’m hoping to make some puppets, with moveable mouths, in the future.
I had several hand models helping me, so I could take pictures for this post. First big sister helped me:
Then middle sister decided Mom needed her help too! I’m not sure, but I think her puppet is falling off her hand, oh how she tries though! 🙂
During naptime, I called in Daddy helper.
He’s such a good sport!
Then I thought I needed to step in, so I could model these puppets, and here comes baby sister. These were a series of fun pictures, so I had to share the whole process. 😉
It really is a fun addition to their room. I called it a Repurposed Table, but really it’s a Dual-Purposed Table because the spring rod can come off, and it can still be used as a table. My daughters’ love their new puppet stand, and love to practice their storytelling skills with it, as well as hear Mom and Dad spin a tale or two!! 😉
Thanks for checking out this post!!
