Repurposed Glass Shades into Organizers-Day 14 of Thankful for Repurposing AND Int’l Bloggers Club “Thankful for Friends Gift Swap
Happy Monday to you all!! It’s time for another edition of Int’l Bloggers Club! A few of our past posts include the Fall project edition, and the Halloween post. For this month’s post, our newest member Michelle from A Crafty Mix, had a great idea. She suggested that we do a thrift swap like you may have seen some other bloggers do, where they go to a thrift store and buy random things and challenge the other members of the group to use them in a repurposing project. However, Michelle thought, instead of buying and sending things to each other, we simply take pictures of 3 items we have that could be repurposed and the other members of the club vote on which one we should use in a project. Michelle also wanted this to be a Christmas present from the other ladies to ourselves. Great idea huh?! Not only did we get some awesome gifts, but we also saved on postage. Thanks for the present ladies!!
I took pictures of these 3 items. The women of the group voted that I use the glass shades in the top portion of the picture (Thanks Michelle for making the collage!) The bread tubes you’ve seen repurposed already, and those garage door handles are coming up this month.
As you can tell from the picture I bought these vintage glass shades at a garage sale for 50 cents a piece. I liked the shape and design and knew I wanted to do something with them, and how could I pass up 50 cents?!
I thought these shades would make great organizers when coupled with a board. I painted the glass shades with a white chalky paint, and I ended up distressing the shades with some sandpaper too.
I had this piece of cedar 1x that I had recently stenciled and sealed with polyurethane, and was going to use as wall décor, but instead it would act as the base for this organizer. I marked holes, and my husband took a Forstner bit and drilled holes deep enough to where the glass shades could sit comfortably in the board. He didn’t drill all the way through the board, so each shade has a bottom to the glass now.
I didn’t want to glue them in place or anything, so I could easily lift them to dust and clean. This trio of dishes will sit on my work table in my craft room. What do you think of this project? What do you use to organize your craft supplies?
Don’t forget to check out Mary’s, Pili’s, Katrin’s and Michelle’s projects!!
Thanks for sharing this project!!
