Dresser and Bookcase Refresh
So right after refinishing the coffee table makeover, I couldn’t help but take a look at the living room furniture again in a whole new way. What if I stained and painted the rest of the furniture similar to the coffee table? This train of thought had me working on two projects simultaneously, the dresser repurposed into an entertainment center and an old bookcase my mom gave to me a long time ago. The dresser used to look like this.
I actually didn’t have to do a lot to this piece to give it a new look. I simply refinished the drawer fronts. To get started, I unloaded all the dresser drawers, and took them outside and sanded down the fronts. After that I wiped them off so they were good and clean, and then I stained them with Minwax Dark Walnut stain. Then I stenciled a design in each corner using my Stenciling Rock Star Secret, with a part of a flower stencil I have. The drawer fronts were sealed with polyurethane. I also spray painted the handles with Valspar’s Honey Vanilla color. I’m loving how this looks, how about you? It’s amazing how just the drawer fronts and the handles changed the entire look!
Onto my bookcase refinish. The bookcase was refinished by my mom several years ago. It’s been through more moves than I want to count and has its fair share of knicks and scratches.
I wanted the stain to be darker on it, so I stripped it down and re-stained it with Dark Walnut. I also stenciled a flower design on the back paneling and on the sides with part of a flower stencil. The bookcase was then sealed with polyurethane. Sooo I went a little crazy stenciling the back paneling, but I knew that it would be hidden by books, so I just went for it!
I’ll admit I didn’t do a superb job on the bookcase, but it’s good enough for my personal use.
I feel like there’s more cohesion now that these pieces are similar to the coffee table. What do you all think? Do you like your furniture to match like I do mine? Or do you prefer there to be different colored pieces with varied patterns?
Thanks for stopping by! Have a great day!!
