My husband dropped a pile of license plates on our kitchen counter a few weeks ago. They were all junk now because they had expired, and he knew I would love to reuse them in some way or another. So sweet of him to see junk and think of me. 😉
I decided to return the favor and use the plates to decorate the garage. I painted them black and that’s as far as I got. I was a little stuck for inspiration, so where do I go? Pinterest, of course! I type in “Industrial”, and I scroll through a little bit and see these cool vintage patents, and of course the light bulb goes off.
I downloaded and printed 2 pictures on regular paper. I then applied mod podge to the plate, pressed the paper onto the plate, and then mod podged over it. After it dried, I painted over the license plate and parts of the paper with black acrylic paint to help blend the two elements together, and this is how they turned out.
The motorcycle one is my favorite and I love that it turned out so well.
I didn’t notice until after I took picture that one of the corners is peeling on the guitar plate, but I’ve already remedied that. The guitar plate is a little bubbly, but it’s still pretty cool, and it is just for the garage, right?
I might do some more of these and find some car patents or tool pictures, things my husband likes.
I want to paint some more of these plates black or silver and use them as light pendants in the garage, like they did here.
Thank you for checking out this post!!
