I purchased this beautiful chair at a garage sale a few weeks ago. It’s a sturdy wooden chair in really great shape. However, it was begging for a makeover.
Sometimes when you get a new project you know right away how to redo it and this just happened to be one of those projects. I knew I was going to paint it black and recover it with black and white fabric.
As you can see the current upholstery was starting to come apart from the seat.
I took it apart and sanded down the chair. I put 2 coats of black satin paint on it, sanding with 220 between coats. I then gave it another sanding with 220 and applied a coat of polycylic.
I took the vinyl covering off the seat and found another layer of fabric, which was removed as well. Then, with the help of my husband, we recovered the chair seat.
What do you think of this makeover?
I’m very pleased with how it turned out!!
I love the fabric it gives it a whimsical touch and the new black coat makes an elegant statement.
