I love picking up frames at garage sales!! Size, shape, color makes no difference to me, I love frames!! Usually I can buy them anywhere from 10 cents to 50 cents, sometimes I’ll splurge and spend $1.00!
Here are two such frames that I probably paid $1.00 for the pair. Most of the time with the smaller frames I’ll put pictures of family in the frames, after all they’re the perfect size for snapshots. This time I decided to make a little bit of wall art to give these frames some purpose.
I bought a package of white cardstock and a stencil at Michael’s the other day. The cardstock was on sale so the one piece of paper I used for this project was a little less than 7 cents. The stencil was $4.29 but I also used a coupon off my total purchase which gave me $2.99 off the total so I like to think that the stencil was essentially $1.30.
The paint I used I bought at Home Depot-$2 for a quart of semi-gloss off-white paint. I like shopping the paint clearance racks at Home Depot and Lowes. I know it’s not the color I picked out but if it’s close to my color scheme I’m sold, especially if it’s semi-gloss because it’s a great sheen for cleaning! 🙂
To get started on this project, I took the glass out of the frames and then sanded and painted the frames. In between coats of paint I measured and cut the cardstock to fit the frames and stenciled the birds on the white cardstock. I used the same paint on both the frames and the paper. I then framed my new bird art.
Here’s how the mini art project turned out:
These pictures are actually a small part of a bigger project I hope to post about soon.
This project cost me a whopping $4.37 if I’m allowed to calculate the price of the stencil like I did.
I still have a ton of paper and paint left that I plan to use on my bigger project that I previously mentioned. I can also use the stencil again!!
I love how cheap and easy this project was!! 🙂
Thanks for checking out this post!!
